I was born in the Bronx, and when NYC was on the brink of bankruptcy in 1977, my family moved out on Long Island, near Bellport, Long Island - a former whaling town, just like Hudson!
My family is mostly public school teachers. Both of my parents are now retired NYS public school teachers; my uncle and aunt are teachers, too.
I attended New York University and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree, with honors, in 1991.
After graduating, I took a temp job as a three-day fill-in for a receptionist on Wall Street for $7.50/hour. This soon led to a full-time job offer and a career. I worked in Derivative Back Offices at Barclays Capital and Deutsche Bank for six years. At 28, I was the Manager for Derivative Cash Settlement Reconciliations at Deutsche Bank, NY.
In 1998, I felt that it was a good time to get involved in computers. I found a job at a small financial services software company, SmartStream Technologies, specializing in reconciliation software. For fifteen years, I traveled throughout the US and Canada implementing reconciliation systems at some of nation's largest financial institutions, and half the banks in Canada.
In 2007, I decided to move, and looked at Hudson. At the time, I did not have a valid driver's license, knew no one upstate, and I wanted a town with a yoga studio, internet access, and a house with a backyard for my dog.
I bought a small house on State Street because it was within walking distance to the train station.
Since moving to Hudson, I started:
- A support office for a small financial services company, that now employs three additional people.- Dance Parties - Trixie's Whorehouse
- Game nights - BINGO and Match Game
- The Hudson Pride Parade
- A cookie-baking business, Trixie's Oven, which supplies cookies to local establishments - Relish, Nolita, Olde Hudson, The Spotty Dog, the Italian Market, the Columbia Memorial Health Paul and Clara Kellner Cafeteria, and the Hudson Farmer's Market.
This year, I completed my yoga teacher's certification in Hudson.
I currently own two houses on State Street, one in which I live, and the other that I rent out to tenants.
If you have any questions, please contact me or come to one of my Meet & Greets.
Thank you very much for considering me for Fourth Ward Alderman.
